Europe announces €206 billion Euro investment in AI infrastructure

The announcement was made on the second day of Europe's Artificial Intelligence Action Summit on AI Safety in Paris, France on February 10-11 and it follows the announcement of $500 billion USD US Stargate AI project on January 21 that revealed that Europe had only a €1.5 billion Euro budget for AI.

Xavier Niel, a French billionaire tech investor responded that Europe must retain control over AI developments.
Models built in the US and China are not built with the same kind of life we have in Europe, said Niel, whose telecommunications firm Iliad recently pledged €3bn to advance AI development in France.
G42, an Abu Dhabi-based AI and cloud business, announced the start of the development of a 400 MW AI data center in France that will be ready mid 2025.
France and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to work together on a separate AI infrastructure project that could be worth up to €50 billion Euro and includes the construction of a 1GW AI data center.
New Interest in Mistral
French Mistral is the leading AI developer in Europe and competes with OpenAI, Google DeepMind AI, Anthropic and other AI developers. The company was valued at €5.8 billion in January 2025 and its growth has been one of the priorities of French President Emmanuel Macron, who launched a strategy to create AI champions in 2023 shortly after Mistral AI was founded.

Mistral is already cooperating with big industrial organizations such as Cisco and Stellantis.
At the AI Action Summit, John Elkann, Stellantis’ chairman, announced a wide-ranging deal with Mistral. We are already actually doing a lot of things jointly within our own internal organization

Later this year, the car manufacturer behind the brands Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, and Jeep will update its mobile app to replace the owner's manual with a Mistral-powered AI assistant.
Mistral Announces Defense Tech Alliance to Develop Military AI
Mistral announced a pact with German defense technology developer Helsing to develop military AI.
Helsing was founded in 2021 and develops software for weapons, vehicles, and military strategy. Its systems have been deployed in fighter jets and drones.

During the AI Safety Summit on February 10-11, Mistral's co-founder and CEO Arthur Mensch announced plans to build a state-of-the-art AI data center in Essonne to the south of Paris. Mensch told French outlet Le Parisien that the site will be operational in the next few months
and that the data center will represent an investment of several billions of euros.
